if chaos killed the dinosaur
Music Video for Gilanares
2024
Intro

Some time after Eden and I worked on the Sideways MV, I was brought on to do Technical Art work in Unreal Engine for a new music video: Gilanares' "if chaos killed the dinosaurs"

This was a super fun project to work on as I leaned heavily into executing a vision within two months (while still working full time at SNAP)
Behind the scenes

For this project, a significant portion of the time was spent on the fluid simulations for the climax of the song, where a massive amount of blood floods the pool where she stands. A lot of it came down to long render times and minor tweaks to bring the quality to the level the Creative Director and the Artist were happy with.

Here's a BTS below:
We utilized a premade environment on the Epic Games store that was spec-ed out before I was even brought onto the project. I added the scene to my Unreal world and immediately began tearing it apart to incorporate the lighting, cameras, and rearranging and deleting assets in the scene to get the look for the music video.

There was also a lot of fixing that came with the premade environment, the composited footage, and keyframing the lights and other animations required to bring the idea to life.

I had never dived into liquid simulations this deep before this project, so it was super rewarding to be able to find a happy balance between a reasonable rendering cost and a good look for the scene.
